Oct 19, 2014 I have already got a repair manual for the 2701E Dorset so if this. Anyone familar with a Ford 4 Cylinder industrial. Ford 172 industrial engines for. Section Four Repair. First Edition Service Manual Supplement Specifications Ford Engine. Available in the Ford LRG-423 2.3 Liter Industrial Engine. REPAIR DATA AND SERVICE. TO adapt Ford Industrial Engines to these uses they are available with S.A.E. Ford '120' 4-Cylinder Industrial Engine Manual. INDUSTRIAL ENGINES Iveco SpA PowerTrain. The contents of this manual refer to the engine only. Main regulation and repair data.
They are pretty common around here, see a lot of them driving irrigation pumps and the like, and most Ford tractors have one. I had a pair of Ford Lehman's in a boat I had at one stage too. Good engines.
Simple, easy to maintain and repair, last forever, run on the smell of an oily rag. Kinda like a perkins but more reliable: ie this is as KISS as it gets.
I've seen four common variants - the four cylinder, the 6 cylinder, and turbo versions of both. The four would be at around 80HP, the 6 around 120Hp or so.
There is some interchangability in parts between Dorsets, Dovers, and the marine Lehmans (cranks, cams, and con rods) but some differeneces too so you need to figure out what you have to get the right bits. Heres what I can tell you. Beyond the obvious things like how many cylinders and is it turboed there should be a plate on the tappet cover identifying which model it is but if it's gone then there are other ways to tell what it is.
Have a look on the left hand side (from the back of the engine) near the starter motor. There you will find the block casting number which should be around 7/8ths high or so.
From there its possible to find out what month of what year the engine left whatever plant it was built in. Don't take these to your local ford dealer because chances are they'll be clueless to any serial numbers built outside the USA. But find a New Holland tractor guy and he should be able to help, or know someone who can. Also look to see if its got a CAV or Simms fuel pump because that can be an indicator. If in doubt have a look at the timing gears - dovers will be straight cut, dorsets are angle cut.
If you can come back with more info based on this I can see what I can find out for you. I don't get here often though so probably shoot me a PM so I don't forget. There was another Ford industrial engine called the BSD 444T that was used in 500 series Valmet forestry equipment. That engine I believe was made in Brazil and fell victim to the emission regs. Parts are real hard to come by other than wear parts should be readily available. Roland Machinery in Escanaba, MI might have some parts and I have a complete one sitting down by the shed.
Last time it ran, it sucked a little water into the intake as it was going down and lost power. Didn't go clear under but definately got water in the intake. I've even got a complete parts breakdown in my old Valmet parts book. What's the problem with yours? There's a farm equipment dealer in Abingdon, VA that advertises that they have the LARGEST SELECTION IN THE SOUTHEAST OF FORD TRACTOR PARTS NEW 'OLD' STOCK.
Name of place is Abingdon Equipment Co. Phone number is (276) 628-2372 and they have a webpage. Not that you would just never write them a bad check. Someone did, and according to the newspaper, one of the owners saw the guy out driving.
Started chasing him and got his pistol out and then started shooting at him. He was convicted and I think he gets to pull his jail time on weekends. 2701's are a Dorset industrial.
The Lehman is a marine version of the same engine - different govenor settings on the pump, flat sump so it sits low in the bilges on a boat, and a heat exchanger cooling system - but the block and most the componentry would be the same. It should not be that hard to get parts for that engine at all, meaning that with a little bit of google and a few emails you'll just about surely find what you're after and probably new stock at that.
There are a hell of a lot of those engines in tractors that are still working so yah. Parts shouldn't be that difficult to get provided you expect to pay a little freight. Now if anyone knows where to get a bonded harmonic balance to fit a Leyland UE600 heavy industrial anywhere in the world.
